When we repeat something over and over again we form not only a habit but also create strong neurological pathways in our brains to that action/habit so that it becomes second nature. A habit is basically a mental shortcut.
That's all well and good when we are learning something useful like brushing our teeth, tying our shoe laces or driving a car but when we bite our nails, play with our hair or pick our nose this is when an action can go from just that, an action, into an unwanted habit.
These unwanted habits are usually formed as a coping mechanism developed in response to a certain situation. The more we think about the issue the more it is on our mind and the more we are unable to stop the habit.
Do you have an unwanted Habit?
A survey undertaken by the 'Independent' in 2018 identified the UK's top 50 habits and whilst we won't list them all here because some like comfort eating (No1.) could be addressed by visiting our Weight Loss page, not doing exercise (No4.) visit our Motivation page, stressing about things (No6.) visit our Stress or Anxiety pages, or smoking (No12.)/vaping (No50.) visit our Smoking Cessation page there are a few others within that 50 that you may recognise. Swearing, Squeezing spots, Picking scabs, Fidgeting with fingers, Picking teeth, Chewing on pens, Cracking your knuckles, Drumming fingers or Grinding our teeth.
By the way our examples above are listed as bite our nails (No.3), play with our hair (No 35.) or pick our nose (No7.).
You may feel that these habits happen so automatically that you have no choice, but the real problem is that you do them without stopping to make a choice.
So the real question is - do you have an embedded automatic action/habit that has now become unwanted? If you do then we can assist.
How can we help?
Unwanted habits really can be changed when you understand that you need to deal with them at the unconscious level, where they formed in response to a perceived need.
Using hypnosis, we can access those unconscious levels where your automatic behaviour pattern was set up. And whilst it might not be easy or happen overnight we can make sure it is you that is making the choice rather than an automatic action or behaviour. You can take back control and keep it.
